German immigrant David Gottlieb Jüngling, who anglicised his name to Yuengling, opened the Eagle Brewery in 1829. The family kept it going through Prohibition, partly by making ice cream. It is still family-owned, and its amber Traditional Lager is so popular locally that people simply order "a lager".
