Cistercian monks founded Val-Dieu Abbey in 1216. After centuries of destruction and closures, a brewery opened in the abbey's old farm buildings in 1997, using the monks' old recipes. Val-Dieu carries the 'Recognised Belgian Abbey Beer' label.
