Abbaye de Scourmont
Chimay, Belgium
Trappist
1862 · brewery founded
Trappist monks set up the brewery inside Scourmont Abbey in 1862. It was the first brewery to put the words "Trappist Ale" on its labels. As at every Trappist brewery, the profits support the monastery and local charities. The abbey also makes cheese, and the leftover brewing grain is fed to the cows that give the milk.
