1851 · brewery founded
John H. Sleeman founded the Silver Creek Brewery in 1851. During Prohibition the family smuggled beer into Michigan, and a 1933 conviction cost them their licence. Great-great-grandson John W. Sleeman revived the brand in 1988 using old family recipes. Sapporo bought the company in 2006.
