The farm brewery is first mentioned in 1604, and its first known brewer appears in 1686. The De Keersmaeker family took over in 1869. The beers are named after À La Mort Subite ("sudden death"), a Brussels café whose name refers to a quick final round in a dice or card game. Heineken owns the brewery through Alken-Maes.
