Founded by father and son Cameron and Spoon Healy, Kona Brewing joined Craft Brew Alliance in 2010 and so came under Anheuser-Busch. In 2020 the Hawaii brewery was split off, while the mainland brand, renamed Kona Big Wave in 2023, stayed with AB and is brewed on the US mainland, which prompted a 2017 lawsuit.
