Armin Kunstmann, a descendant of German immigrants, began home-brewing after a 1989 trip to the US and started industrial production in 1997, reviving the local tradition of the Anwandter brewery destroyed by the 1960 Valdivia earthquake. CCU bought 49% of the company in 2002.
