Schwechater

1632 · brewery founded

The Schwechat brewhouse dates from 1632 and was bought by the Dreher family in 1796. In 1841 Anton Dreher made a breakthrough with cold-stored, bottom-fermented beer, the Vienna-style lager. Brau Union has owned it since 1978, and it is now part of Heineken.
