Stieglbrauerei
Salzburg, Austria
1492 · brewery founded
The brewery is first recorded in 1492, the year Columbus reached the Americas. Its name comes from a small staircase ("Stiegl") that led from the brewery to a canal. The Schreiner family bought it in 1819. Stiegl is Austria's best-selling beer not owned by Heineken's Brau Union, and it runs a beer museum in Salzburg.
