Harpoon holds Massachusetts brewing permit #001, as the first company licensed to make and sell beer in the state in more than 15 years. Harpoon IPA, first sold as a summer seasonal in 1993, was the first IPA brewed in New England. The employee-owned company also runs a brewery in Windsor, Vermont.
