Sam and Mariah Calagione opened it as the smallest commercial brewery in the US, making 10 gallons a day; it is named after Dogfish Head, Maine, where Sam spent summers. It is known for unusual ingredients and for its 60 and 90 Minute IPAs, with hops added continuously during the boil. Boston Beer Company bought it in 2019.
