Samuel Smith

1758 · brewery founded

The Old Brewery, Yorkshire's oldest by its own claim, passed in 1886 to Samuel Smith, nephew of John Smith, whose brewery stands next door. Still family-owned, it uses dray horses for some local deliveries and bans music, TV and mobile phones in its pubs. Its bottled ales influenced early US craft brewers.
