Karhu means 'bear' in Finnish. It was first brewed at the Pori brewery, which Sinebrychoff bought in 1972; it stayed a local Pori beer until going national in 1993. Production moved to Sinebrychoff's Kerava brewery and the Pori site closed in 2009. Today Sinebrychoff is part of Carlsberg.
