1890 · first brewed
Yebisu was first brewed in 1890 and is named after Ebisu, one of Japan's Seven Lucky Gods; 'Yebisu' is a deliberately old-fashioned spelling. The district and station of Ebisu were named after the beer, and the old brewery site became Yebisu Garden Place. Sapporo relaunched it as a German-style brand in 1971.
