Monks of St. Blasien Abbey founded the Rothaus brewery in 1791, and it is now owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg. Tannenzäpfle ("little fir cone") was launched in 1956 in a small 0.33-litre bottle. The label shows a young woman in Black Forest dress, whom fans nicknamed "Biergit Kraft" ("beer gives strength").
