Hans Heinrich Hürlimann started brewing in Feldbach in 1836, and his son moved the brewery to Zurich-Enge in the 1860s. By 1880 it was Switzerland's largest brewery. It created the non-alcoholic Birell. After merging with Feldschlösschen it stopped brewing in Zurich in 1997, and the brand now belongs to Carlsberg.
