Hobgoblin began as a strong winter ale, named by founder Paddy Glenny, and became Wychwood's flagship ruby ale. Its labels play on the legends of the ancient Wychwood Forest. The Witney brewery, on the site of an old maltings, was closed by Carlsberg Marston's in November 2023, but the brand lives on.
