German brewmaster José Fischer founded it in 1896 as Cervecería La Patagona, using blocks of natural ice to keep the beer cold while it matured. The Fischer family handed management to Malterías Unidas in 1961. Its range includes beers named after Torres del Paine and the Yagán people.
