Amstel

1870 · brewery founded

Founded in 1870 and named after the River Amstel, the brewery stored its beer in cellars cooled with winter ice cut from Amsterdam's canals. It was the first Dutch brewery to export beer in cans. Heineken bought it in 1968 and closed the Amsterdam brewery in the early 1980s.
