The Tui Brewery was established in 1889 by Henry Wagstaff and Edward Russell, and the beer is named after a native New Zealand bird. Its 'Yeah Right' billboards ran from 1997 to 2016. Owner DB, part of Heineken, ended brewing at the historic brewery in 2021 and now makes Tui in Auckland and Timaru.
