Maccabee is a pilsner created by brewmaster Menachem Berliner and introduced in 1968, and it competed with Goldstar until the 1970s. Both brands came under one owner in 1975 and went to Tempo in 1986. In 1999 the two together accounted for 60% of beer sales in Israel.
