First brewed in 1922, Cristal is Peru's most consumed beer, nicknamed 'La Rubia' (the blonde). It gave its name to the football club Sporting Cristal. Its brewer, Backus and Johnston, was founded in 1879 by Americans Jacob Backus and J. Howard Johnston and is now part of AB InBev.
