Vailima

1978 · brewery founded

Samoa Breweries was established in 1978 and named its lager after the village of Vailima. The name means 'water in hand', from a folktale of a woman who saved her dying lover by carrying water to him in her hands. A 2022 plan to move brewing to Fiji was dropped after public protest, and production was licensed to a Samoan producer.
