Brothers Ivan and Peter Kosler started it as a family brewery in 1864, and the Union brand dates from 1909. It was nationalised under Yugoslavia in 1946. Laško bought it in 2005, Heineken took over Laško in 2015, and the two merged into Pivovarna Laško Union in 2016.
