East African Breweries

Nairobi, Kenya

1923 · first brewed

Brothers George and Charles Hurst founded Kenya Breweries in 1922. In 1923, shortly after George was killed by an elephant, Charles named their first lager Tusker, after the big-tusked bull elephants of East Africa. Its Swahili slogan means "My Beer, My Country". It is made by East African Breweries, whose largest shareholder is Diageo.
