Stella was first brewed in 1897 by Belgian entrepreneurs at the Crown Brewery in Alexandria, and soon became part of everyday Egyptian life. Heineken invested in 1937, Nasser nationalized the breweries in 1963 as Al Ahram Beverages, and after privatization in 1997 Heineken bought the company again.
