Cervecería Polar started brewing in March 1941 in Antímano, west of Caracas, and grew into Empresas Polar, Venezuela's largest brewer and a major food company. The name comes from the polar bear on the bottles. In 2016 the economic crisis briefly halted beer production when the firm could not import barley.
