Cervecería Nacional was founded in 1887 in the Las Peñas district on the Guayas River, and launched Pilsener, the country's best-selling beer, in 1913. Club Premium followed in 1966. The brewery was part of Bavaria and SABMiller and has been controlled by AB InBev since 2016.
