Morland Brewery created the beer in 1979 for the 50th anniversary of MG's car factory in Abingdon. It is named after a 1927 MG car that workers called the 'owd speck'ld un' because of its speckled paintwork. Greene King bought Morland in 2000 and closed the Abingdon brewery.
