Hite was introduced in 1993 by Chosun Brewery, a company founded in 1933 under Japanese rule, which renamed itself Hite in 1998. It later merged with soju maker Jinro to form HiteJinro. Hite was South Korea's top-selling lager until Cass overtook it in 2011.
