Named after the Spanish conquistador Vasco Núñez de Balboa, it was the first beer of the Panama Brewing & Refrigeration Company, founded in 1909, and went on sale in 1910. In 1939 several breweries merged to form Cervecería Nacional, which is now part of AB InBev.
