Auguste Maille founded the brewery in 1901, and the Lepers family runs it today. L'Angelus, a 7% wheat beer whose label shows Millet's painting The Angelus, has been brewed since 1978 and is its flagship. In May 2012 the brewery moved from Annœullin to La Chapelle-d'Armentières.
