Cooper Isly Dubois founded the brewery in 1885. It was partly destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt, and Alphonse Dhaussy revived it in 1977. Its name refers to the small wooden ball used in a traditional Hainaut stick game. The brewery also houses a museum of old brewing equipment.
